Easter is celebrated in Folegandros in a special way.
The whole event takes place in an atmosphere of joy, with songs, entertainment and plenty of fireworks. When the icon stops at a house or shop offered the local wine or raki, sweets and hospitality.
Ceremony is a three-day process with the icon of Panaghia (Virgin Mary). By noon of Easter Sunday will locals bring the icon from the church down to the Chora and carry it to the houses. The owners of the houses and the stores receive it with respect and joy. They offer sweets and raki around to the people. Lots of fireworks sent up and lit up the sky. At nightfall, the icon given to the residents of Ano Meria, who will receive it with a local celebration. Next day the process continues to visit all the houses and farms in the region. Tuesday last day of the process goes on to the people Petoussis and Livadi, then continues to the port of Karavostassis when it is received in the houses and shops, the boats, as each wants to receive the blessing of the icon.
